Ashley
Hello! Nice to meet you, my name is Ashley. When I was first introduced to Mass Customized Learning I became intrigued of the thought of being able to incorporate art into two different subjects. It was new and something I've never seen before so obviously I had my doubts but I joined with hope that I'd be able to expand my horizons and see things from a new perspective in art. Now that Apollo is coming to an end this year it gave me just that and so much more. I've improved greatly on one of my biggest fear which was communication. I'm not the type of person to ask questions to my teachers or my peers even though I have many. Apollo has given me various skills that I will use for the future, friends, and many great memories.
KathrynHi, I'm Kathryn and I am the writer of the group. I first heard of the Mass Customized Class last year. The students gathered at an assembly and were given a brief overview of the class/idea to be. It was a pilot program meaning it was unexpected where it was going to go. I was one of the few people who took interest. I have a very outgoing personality. I am always up for a challenge and to try new things. Getting my parents to agree... That's a different story. They were worried that my grades might fall because the class was similar to what would be a experiment. As a junior this year, it was important to have strong grades. All summer I would bring the class up around them and around our friends and family trying to influence them it was a good idea. I must of done a good job because they said yes! The first day of school I was unsure what was going to happen. I was greeted with familiar faces. I knew many of the students in the class. The ones I wasn't familiar with, I grew to know. I knew one of the teachers. I had Mr. Grandi as my art teacher during ninth grade. The other two teachers I became inspired by. So much that I am continuing next semester with Mr. Ward. I will be taking his college in the high school composition class. I couldn't be more enthusiastic about it. The first quarter, I struggled. I was not quite sure what was expected of me. Then as time went on, I gained a better understanding. This class allowed me to create four in depth individual projects on topics I was interested in. I have also worked with my peers on a group documentary project. It was in the first weeks I grabbed the idea of a documentary. I had no idea what I had gotten myself into. But now I am thankful because my technology and mentoring skills have grown. I am very sad to see this class draw to and end. I have improved my knowledge about life skills, retained more information than I had in my previous two years of high school, and am leaving with a different approach on school and life itself. I have my wonderful teachers and uplifting students to thank for that.
MagnusApollo has been an interesting experience. I have enjoyed being able to engage myself and take control of what I learn and how I choose to go about it. I feel like I have learned useful and beneficial skills that will help me throughout my life that I would otherwise never had. I worked on important skills that are relevant, for example, I found the Error Analysis skill work or assessments useful and insightful. I felt engaged when I took assessments as well as heard and taken into account when feedback was asked. As far as our group project I thought it was useful in getting people to work with others. Due to some projects students may want to do that include or are integrated into the community may feel too large of a task alone helps to take them on with a group.

When I first heard of Apollo (Mass Customized Learning) was when the school had gathered students for an assembly that our principal Mr. Caufman was holding to introduce this program. I heard bits and pieces of what it was about but wasn't clear on the subject. I decided to join either way because it seemed interesting and something helpful to do. As time passed it was clear to me that this was a great choice because the experience is a once in a lifetime thing. We treat each other like family and our teachers are amazing. They give you that one-on-one time that you need to talk about your projects and how you could improve them to their utmost potential. The project influenced my way of thinking, through an artistically and historical view. English was a part of the Apollo program that influenced my writing altogether, I learned to see things from a different perspective. The Art portion of the program allow me to try things I have never done before, for example, I curated a gallery based on the emotions of immigrants then learned video and photograph techniques. There is History to which contributed by showing how to go beyond a timeline or a simple slide show. Overall, the program honed my skills and techniques. It gave me a taste of freedom that you experience in life after high school.
LydiaMy name is Lydia, and I am an artist. I moved a few weeks after school started from a little town in Ohio. My first day of school at CYHS, I met with my new guidance counselor, who recommended I take a look at this thing called Apollo, or Mass-Customized Learning. I met with the teachers, as well as some of the students. It was confusing and scary, but I decided I might as well try it, if only for getting the Honors credits. That was one of the best decisions I have made. I immediately met with this group, and we became friends within the first day. Through Apollo, I have made new friends, learned about myself and how I work, and have matured. I have even been able to sell my first piece of Artwork because of one of my projects. I hope to see Apollo being spread throughout the state, and hopefully farther. Apollo is the future of Learning.
MorganTo introduce the students to the option of Apollo, the CYHS administration held an assembly. Once they explained the wonders of Apollo -Mass Customized Learning- they passed out slips of paper to write your name on and place in a box on the way out, if you were interested. Instead of just writing my name on the slip, I proceeded to write reasons as to why I should be picked to be a part of Apollo. Needless to say, I was excited for Apollo to start.
Summer came and went, leaving Apollo next on my radar. When the class started, it flew by and now it's almost over. At the end, I will be leaving with quality friends and unique knowledge that I would not have acquired otherwise. |
